Zumbi, the last of the leaders of Quilombo dos Palmares in early Brazil, is executed by the forces of Portuguese bandeirante Domingos Jorge Velho.

Zumbi dos Palmares, the Brazilian leader of a 100-year-old rebel slave group, Quilombo dos Palmares, was betrayed by an old companion, a mulatto who belonged to the quilombo and had been captured by the Paulistas, and, in return for his life, led them to Zumbi’s hideout. Zumbi was hunted down, taken prisoner and beheaded.
