​September 24, 1935: Joe Louis Defeats Max Baer

Joe Louis at 198 lbs beat Max Baer at 210 lbs by KO in round 4 of 14. The fight took place at Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York.
It was 3:09 into the 4th round, Louis knocked Baer out with vicious right then left punch to the jaw. Baer got to his knees but decided to get on his feet.

After the fight, Max Baer told reporters “I could’ve struggled up once more, but when I get executed, people are going to have to pay more than $25 to see it.”

The Paid attendance at Yankee Stadium that night was 84,831, and about 11,000 passes were issued.

Louis’ purse was $217,337, and Baer’s was $181,114.
