According to Enchanted Learning, a site that charts inventions, the potato chip was invented in 1853 by George Crum.
Crum was a Native American/African American chef at the Moon Lake Lodge resort in Saratoga Springs, New York.
French fries were popular at the restaurant during that time, and one day a diner complained that the fries were too thick. Although Crum made a thinner batch, the customer was still unsatisfied. The chef kept slicing them thinner, then fried them to a crisp, and seasoned them heavily with salt. By then, they were too thin to eat with a fork. Crum expected the fussy customer to dislike them, but the man praised them highly. So the potato chips were invented by accident. The chips became popular and subsequently became known as “Saratoga chips” or “potato crunches.”

Awesome, there’s so much to learn in black history there was so much history taken from us and not recognized. Thk! Black historians and historians abroad.
Actually it wasn’t. George Washington Carver only listed uses for peanuts. It was actually a fellow Canadian, Marcellus Gilmore Edson, who invented peanut butter & patented it 12 years before Carver.
Now I understand why when eating chips I get left the Crums, lol. Little known fact I didn’t know. African Americans have had a very positive effect on America’s progress.
Yes, well these are the kinds of things that the mainstream doesn’t want to mention.
Especially if dollars are involved.
Black inventions and innovations have been largely ignored by history in favour of stereotypes. Had no idea this was the case.
Not stereotypes, just denial and thievery.
Inventions by African Americans directly contradicted White supremacists’ lies about “Black inferiority.”
Hence, in order to keep fooling other Whites, White elites didn’t include our accomplishments and contributions to the world in their school books.
Blacks will never recieve the true credit deserved for their endeavors in this country!
Never know. Maybe they will. Maybe they won’t. But we should respect there inventions either way.

Every time you write something down with a “fountain pen” while sitting in a “rocking chair” think of all the genius inventions that Black Americans contributed to. Oh yeah, and one thing that we all use everyday the “refrigerator”. Edison invented the light bulb but they fail to tell you that his helper, a black man invented the filaments. The list goes on and on. You want black children to perform better in these schools, let them hold their head high with knowing the contributions their ancestors made besides the peanut.
