Robert Nesta Marley who was also known as Bob Marley was an Afro-Jamaican musician, songwriter, and guitarist who achieved international acclaim and tremendous fame. Bob was born on February 6, 1945, on the farms of his maternal grandfather located in Nine Mile, Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica. His father Norval Sinclair Marley was Captain, who was the White member of the British Army in his early sixties. While his mother was an eighteen-year-old Afro-Jamaican named Cedella Malcolm. Bob spent most of his childhood in sheer poverty and most of it without the presence of his father. He spent twelve years of his life in the deserted rural interior of the island, except for a short stay in Kingston. Bob spent most his time at the farm of his grandfather and also herded the goats of his aunt just for a year.
In 1957, Bob got lucky and moved to Kingston where he reunited with his mother who lived on the west side of the city ghetto known as Trench Town. Unfortunately, while living there, Bob and his mother got exposed to the disease, open sewer, malnourished children, and violence, but that didn’t stop Bob to pursue a perfect career for him. Although the conditions of the area were extremely harsh, this was the right place where Bob started his musical journey and drew inspiration for his philosophical and political messages.
At the age of 14, Bob was dropped out of school. He began singing different versions of cover songs and in no time mastered different musical instruments made of makeshift materials. Marley introduces the “Reggae” style of music by collaborating different elements of the Jamaican music called U.S. Rhythm and Blues and Ska.
In 1962, when he turned sixteen, Bob produced his very first recordings. One year later, he got fortunate and got the opportunity to begin recording with original members of The Wailers properly. It was a great collaboration but ended till the group disbanded in 1975. Although the original group members were all gone, Marley tried his best to retain the name of the band and continued his superb work by recording music and touring around the world until he got sick and died in 1981. Marley died at the age of 36 on May 11, 1981, due to severe cancer in his lungs, stomach, and brain. Marley is still remembered because of his intense and pure music. Unfortunately, he didn’t have enough time to prove himself completely in the field of music.

Horribly written!
Never heard of a term afro-jamaican. Especially considering his Dad was white british. Marley would be so angry at those words. If the person who write this knew anything about Bob Marley would know he strove for unity…not separation of people. I love the info Black Then provides but this is a travesty to the memory of Bob Marley.
