Sending out a HUGE Congratulations to Ibtihaj Muhammad & USA Women’s Saber Fencing team for winning the Bronze medal!
Ibtihaj Muhammad is the 1st Muslim-American woman to wear a Hijab while competing for the United States in the Olympics.
When asked about her love of the sport, Muhammad stated: “I don’t think I found fencing, I feel like fencing found me.”
There had been controversy because Muhammad was competing in a Hijab, she nor or teammates let hate and naysayers stop them.
“This has been a long journey for us,” Muhammad said. “To be able to compete at the level that we’ve worked toward, on the world’s biggest stage, the Olympic Games, is truly a blessing for us. … I’ll never forget this moment.”
