On June 16, 1944, a black 14-year-old boy was executed in the electric chair in South Carolina.

Three months earlier, George Stinney, Jr. and his sister were playing in their yard when they were approached by two young white girls who were looking for flowers. The girls never returned home.

George joined a search party and mentioned to a bystander that he had seen the girls earlier that day. He was immediately arrested. He faced trial virtually alone, as no African Americans were permitted in the courtroom. His attorney failed to call a single witness.

An all-white jury deliberated for only 10 minutes before convicting young George Stinney of rape and murder. He was sentenced to death by electrocution and is the youngest person executed in the United States in the 20th Century.

Since there is no limitation on murder cases and other civil liberties crimes, now with documented photos and business records that can identify the victims and their murderers / violators, this is where the historians and researchers, who love to correct and lecture, could be devoting their efforts in researching out and identifying those criminals. Their benefactors and heirs should have to pay retribution and restitution for their crimes.

I agree with you. Shameful. He is now with our Lord and has been since his body released his Spirit.

Is this type of execution due to the presence of the Statue of Liberty? If it is why should the Statue of Liberty exist?

I’m sure most South Carolinians are familiar with this case. Why hasn’t anyone investigated, or searched for family descendents. This child still deserves to have his name cleared and the truth told. Doesn’t anyone on South Carolina care.
