  • Kathy Lucas April 26, 2017 - 1:59 am

What I appreciated the most about Dr. King is how he was unapologetic in his convictions and knowing that he would die for his committment and stayed loyal to the end.

This video opened my eyes more about the man, Thanks for this and I appreciate your work truly. This was deep. I believe Martin had a speech planned titled why America is going to hell but due to his passing, it wasn't delivered. I like how he adopted a stronger stance for his people before his passing. Much of our plight as a people stems from being attacked systematically and it seems he was ready to shake that very system

It is funny, well telling is probably a better choice of words, that during Black History Month virtually all of the media attention is on Martin Luther King. In fact, one could argue that with regards to Black History it would seem that the only topics worth discussing are slavery (and how blacks are no longer slaves), the Civil Rights Era (and all of the progress that African Americans have made as a result), Jackie Robinson integrating baseball (and  how that was a great thing for America) and Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech. Of course African-Americans are still slaves (we call them criminal now) the progress of the Civil Rights Era has been undone, just like the progress that occurred during Reconstruction was erased– (there are no rights if there is no enforcement of those rights). Integration of baseball happened for more economic reasons than for civility as the Negro League was threatening to surpass the Major League in terms of revenue. (Negro League players were better athletes; more home runs, more strike-outs etc. This is why the Negro League was quickly disbanded after integration)  And of course Martin Luther King's most famous speech is much easier for the status quo to accept than the messages of his other speeches, let alone the speeches of Malcolm X.  It's bromidic to believe that a lack of self determination is the ONLY thing keeping black people from succeeding in this country. That viewpoint portends that there never was any racism in America or that racism is no longer relevant in our now officially color blind society.  Important stuff presented to you by "The Great Girot"!

Wow , that was very informative.

  • sweetchari April 26, 2017 - 1:59 am

THANK YOU Queen for educating us 🙂 We remember the MLK with the dream but not the MLK who spoke about economic development for blacks or the fight for reparations.  Great points that integration cost nothing, but justice cost everything!  The chilling evidence of MLK's assassination really was news to me although I knew the story we were told was incorrect.  It is so unfortunate that Buddy Butler was a casualty 🙁

  • brianca3 April 26, 2017 - 1:59 am

what about the blacks that was involved in his death. Is there any truth to the not so quiet whispers that jesse Jackson was a part of the conspiracy?

Very thought provoking work. I was actually schooled on some of the issues surrounding the great Dr. Martin Luther’s life work and death. My eyes have been further opened by this piece. Good Job! Sadly those issues Dr. King so passionately discussed back then are still very prevalent in today’s world, especially the police injustices.

    • Black Then Staff April 30, 2017 - 9:13 am

Thank you for your message! We will be sure to cover more topics like this moving forward.
