The Seattle Royal Giants was a semi-professional baseball team in the first half of the 20th Century. The team was formed in 1928 by three former professional players in the Negro Baseball League, Jimmy Claxton, Powell Barnett, and Elmer Wilson. The team attracted fans of all races to the Garfield Park every Sunday afternoon in Seattle.

Multi-sports star Joe Staton joined the team in 1931 as a pitcher.  Staton was also an actor for the Negro Repertory Company. He also worked as a sports columnist for The Northwest Enterprise, which was a black newspaper in Seattle.

By 1937, the Royal Giants name was changed to American Giants in honor of the Chicago, Illinois American Giants, which was a popular professional team. By 1939 the team included Art Hays, Paul Chappell, Davey Williams, William Washington, Charley Russell, Sam Bruce, Joe Staton, Brennan King, and Babe Wilson.

By World War II the American Giants began to decline. Many of the best players were drafted into the Army or Navy. By 1943, the team had a record of one win during a ten game stretch. The team split in 1945.
