Nancy Sue Wilson (pictured) was born in Chillicothe, Ohio, on February 20, 1937.
Wilson was an American jazz singer and actress who had a five-decade career. She worked in the entertainment industry from the mid-1950s through the early 2010s, when she retired. Wilson’s tune “(You Don’t Know) How Glad I Am” and her rendition of the traditional “Guess Who I Saw Today” were both smash hits.
She has almost 70 LPs to her credit and has received three Grammy Awards for her efforts. Wilson has been described as a blues, R&B, pop, and soul performer throughout her career. She was a superb performer as well as an all-around entertainer.
However, she preferred to be addressed as a”song stylist.” Wilson was dubbed “Sweet Nancy,” “The Baby,” “Fancy Miss Nancy,” and “The Girl With the Honey-Coated Voice,” among other monikers during her illustrious career.
She died on December 18, 2018, in Pioneertown, California, at the age of 81. See her complete show in 1962 below.
