After a historic boxing match between two of America’s most iconic fighters, on February 25th, 1964, soul-singing superstar Sam Cooke was asked to be in the company of some other renowned and legendary figures.
Muhammad Ali (then still named Cassius Clay) invited Cooke to attend a celebration he was organizing with football star Jim Brown and civil rights icon Malcolm X. Cooke enthusiastically accepted the invitation.
As a result of Ali’s title victory against Sonny Liston, Cooke was given the option to accommodate Ali and his high-profile comrades at the heavyweight fighter’s hotel in Miami, Florida.
This festive meeting of revolutionary minds was depicted in director Regina King’s 2020 film titled “One Night in Miami.”
