HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE LATE GREAT LEGENDARY, MR. CURTIS MAYFIELD!!!!
Curtis Lee Mayfield was a soul, R&B, and funk singer, songwriter, and record producer.
He achieved both mainstream solo success and recognition from his involvement with The Impressions during the Civil Rights Movement. Mayfield is regarded as a pioneer of funk and of politically-conscious African-American music.
He is also known for his efforts in writing the soundtrack to the blaxploitation film, Super Fly. This music was considered unusual as the soundtrack for a blaxploitation film, as the songs contained themes that focused more on the social problems of African American urban areas during the time.
Mayfield was also a multi-instrumentalist who played the guitar, bass, piano, saxophone, and drums. He is a winner of both the Grammy Legend Award (1994) and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (1995). Mayfield was also a double inductee into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as he was inducted as a member of The Impressions into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, and again in 1999 as a solo artist.
