Sherian Grace Cadoria (pictured) was born in Marksville, Louisiana on January 26, 1940.
Cadoria is a retiree and former officer who served in the United States Army. When she was promoted to brigadier general in 1985, she made history by being the first African-American woman to hold a general officer’s ranking in the conventional United States Army. When she retired from the armed forces in 1990, Cadoria held a higher military ranking than any other African-American woman in the service.
The University of Oklahoma is where Cadoria earned her Master of Arts degree in Social Work. Prior to that, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Education from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1961. Cadoria earned an additional Bachelor of Science in Business Education from Louisiana State University. She was a member of the Women’s Army Corps, at one point.
Cardoria did, however, join the Military Police Corps in the 1970s — serving the bureau for the remainder of her career.
