Man,IAm in Shubuta ,right now .I was raised up here in Waynesboro,my family was never a part of this gross injustice.This makes me sick that they won't investigate these deaths.My grandfather and his father built that hanging bridge ,and I know they never intended it to be used in that manner .I am shaken!

My Dad's father, Howard Smith, was born in Shubuta, and was sent to Fresno, California due to the hangings in Mississippi by his mother, whom eventually relocated to Fresno as well. I believe her maiden name was Carter, or she was a cousin of a family named Carter. It was my understanding that some of the Carter family moved to Philidelphia.
My grandparents' house was the last house on the road when the lynchings occurred.
