For the week of June 28, 1973, JET Magazine featured a cover story for one of the most prolific musicians of that time: Isaac Hayes.
The column was written by William E. Berry and was illustrated with a picture of Hayes in black and white swimming trunks – being held by his then-wife. She was wearing a black two-piece swimsuit. Her name was Mignon Harley, 24. According to Berry’s article, Hayes had just married her on May 10, 1973, in Carson City, Nevada.
It was also stated in Berry’s JET cover story that Hayes had just gone through a divorce in fall 1972. His ex-wife (also 24) was named Emily Watson. There were a few twists and turns in Hayes’ life prior to his high-profile marriage to Harley. The marital splendor Berry’s report described came abruptly following a high-profile divorce from Watson.
