William Henry Duke Jr. (a.k.a. Bill Duke) was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, on February 26, 1943. Duke is most recognized for his acting appearances.
However, he is also a well-known filmmaker. Duke’s acting career focused on the action and criminal drama genres, with many of his roles involving police enforcement. He has played with Arnold Schwarzenegger in a number of challenging and famous roles, including Commando and Predator.
American Gigolo, No Man’s Land, Bird on a Wire, Menace II Society, Exit Wounds, Payback, X-Men: The Last Stand, and Mandy are among his cinematic credits. He is well recognized for his role as Agent Percy Odell in Black Lightning on television. Duke has directed episodes of Cagney & Lacey, Dallas, Hill Street Blues, Miami Vice, The Twilight Zone, and American Playhouse, among others.
Duke also has directorial credits in the crime films, Hoodlum, Deep Cover, and A Rage in Harlem — the latter for which he earned a Palme d’Or Award. Duke also directed Sister Act 2, a comedy.
