Video footage of Martin Luther King Jr. under arrest in Selma was recently released as part of a massive upload of historical news videos to YouTube.
The video includes clips of King leading a civil rights protest in Selma and giving a speech at Brown Chapel AME Church.
It also includes footage from a press conference given by then-mayor of Selma Joe Smitherman, who describes the threat of “outside agitation groups” that have continually harassed the city and declares his firm stance as a segregationist.
