Laurence John Fishburne was born on July 30, 1961, to Hattie Bell and Laurence John Fishburne. His father was a school math, and science teacher and his mother was a juvenile correction officer. He was born in Augusta, Georgia, United States of America. He is an American actor, playwright, writer, and film producer. He was raised in Brooklyn, New York, (which he considers his hometown) by his mother when his parents got divorced. His father saw him one time a month. He graduated from Lincoln Square Academy in New York. He has enjoyed a distinguished career in film, television, and theatre.

He is best known for playing  Morpheus in The Matrix trilogy, Tyrone Miller in the film Apocalypse and Jason Styles in drama movie Boyz in the Hood. His television appearance in TriBeCa landed him an Emmy award for the Outstanding Guest Actor. For his performance in What’s Love Got to Do With It, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor. He earned a Tony Award for Best Featured Performer in a Play for his performance in Two Trains Running in 1992. He has also won Drama Desk Award, a Theatre World Award, and an Outer Critic’s Circle Award.

His latest performance includes playing the role of Dr. Raymond Langston in long running Columbia Broadcasting System series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.  He delivered the voice of the narrator in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and Silver Surfer in the picture Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer in 2007. He became the first African-American to portray Othello when he appeared in Oliver Parker’s 1995 film adaption of the Shakespeare play. He was selected as an Ambassador for United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF), an organization of United Nations which helps children all around the globe.

In 1985 he married actress Hanja O Moss in New York. They have two kids together. A son Langston, he was born in 1987 and a daughter Montana, she was born in 1991. They divorced in the 1990’s. He was engaged to actress Gina Torres in February 2001. They married in September 22, 2002. The couple has a daughter who was born in June 2007. Her name is Delilah. He lives in Hollywood. He is a big admirer of Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho and is planning to produce a movie based on his novel The Alchemist.

    Mr. Fishburne may have been the first black male to portray the role of Othello in a movie, but Paul Robeson was the first Afro/American to portray Othello in a Theatre Guild performance in 1943 with Jose Ferrer and
    Uta Hagan according to Charles Wesley’s Library of Negro Life and History.
