- The Alabama Educational Television Commission is denied license renewal (January 8, 1975) by the Federal Communications Commission due to several cases of racial discrimination.
- St. Helena Parish schools were officially integrated (January 8, 1989) marking the end of the longest integration lawsuit in history. A lawsuit that had been raging since 1952, John Hall and the NAACP celebrated a great victory.
