James Shaw, the Waffle House shooting hero will have a scholarship named in his honor from his alumni, Tennessee State University.

Shaw ended a deadly shooting at a Waffle House in Tennessee, had it not been for his heroic actions, more lives would have been lost.

Since the shooting, Shaw has raised $240,000 in donations for the victim’s families. The funds went to a GoFundMe Campaign. Twenty thousand dollars of that money was donated by Dwyane Wade, Shaw’s sports hero, whom he met on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Steve Harvey also announced that his show would be sending Shaw on a trip to Barbados. He has also been called a national hero by Vice President Pence.

Tennessee State University President Glenda Glover gave a statement at the reception which was to honor Shaw, saying that “The TSU family is extremely proud of alumnus James Shaw, Jr. for his bravery and courage. His actions saved the lives of many others.”
