Unfortunately, Dr. Welding was also a strong proponent of denying that LGBTQ people of color were born that way. She believed, and taught others to believe, that the lifestyle was a white-inspired plot to eradicate black people. According to her there are no instances of LGBTQ people native to Africa.
This stance has hurt the lives of many of my friends whom I know so well. They already fight white privilege and police brutality. Should they now have to also fight their own people?

Why is it so hard to believe that homosexuality is not a natural state for African Americans? Whites have historically tried everything imaginable to eradicate the black male. Why not this? Do you think that white homosexuals did not use and abuse their slaves in this manner? It seems that anytime anyone says anything other than “Rah, rah homosexuals,” it is taken as an attack and the person is called homophobic. I think everyone has a right to their own opinion, and Dr. Cress Welsing’s (not welding) opinion on this matter in no way diminishes the knowledge that she has shared and been praised for these many years.
