Famous Civil Rights Leader Malcolm X was a powerforce and poignant speaker for black people during his lifetime. After his return from Mecca, Malcolm X used the name El Hajj Malik el Shabazz. In an interview explaining the name and his continued usage of the X, Malcolm called to task the multiple nations expressing disgust at South Africa’s treatment of black people while not interrogating racism in their own countries and American society, calling them hypocritical. In the video, Malcolm X states that he will continue to use his name as long as institutionalized racism continues to affect the plight of black people, “as long as there is a need to protest and struggle and fight”. Upon visits around the world, Malcolm X continued to develop his ideologies and world view on racism and its prevalence around the world, saying it was impossible for the United States to fix “the race problem”.
In the interview, he also touches on African Americans throwing off physical and mental shackles of racism and colonialism, creating their own standards as black men and women find their own intellectual maturity.
