Calvin Mims and Dwight Smith of Fayetteville, North Carolina, are avid collectors of African-American art. They describe why it’s important to preserve and share the stories told through #black artists. “Art defines a culture. Art is a footprint that a culture is measured by,” said Mims, who is executive director of Ellington-White Community Development Corp., which operates a gallery in downtown Fayetteville. Smith is an artist and professor at Fayetteville State University.
